We at Flying Dog Brewery are starting to have more and more beer dinners on the East coast, and here’s another great-sounding beer dinner on May 27th at Duffy’s on Potomac in Hagerstown, Maryland. It’s only $29 plus tax and tip - a very affordable beer dinner. If you’re looking to see what the hell a beer dinner is all about and have just a little extra cash, this might be right up your alley.
The menu looks tasty, they even have an Exploding Crabcake paired with Old Scratch Amber Lager. How could that possibly be bad?

One of my favorite things about working in the Craft Beer industry is that we can be friends with other craft brewers. The camaraderie of craft brewers is unlike anything I’ve seen in previous jobs. And ultimately, we’re all promoting the concept of “better beer”.
Along that theme, extraordinary chef Bruce Paton is having a great-sounding beer dinner on April 20th at the Cathedral Hill Hotel in San Francisco. I saw this beer dinner at the The California Craft Beer Newsletter blog (see link for all the pertinent information) - and the beer dinner looks exquisite. There are five participating breweries (with their brewmasters being in attendance):
Rod Todd, Allagash, Portland, ME
Adam Avery, Avery Brewing, Boulder, CO
Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head, Milton, DE
Tomme Arthur, Port Brewing/Lost Abbey, San Marcos, CA
Vinnie Cilurzo, Russian River, Santa Rosa, CA.
These are heavyweights in craft beer, and they’ll all be there. I had the privilege of going to a beer dinner hosted by Chef Paton and it surpassed all my expectations (more on that event later this week). If I lived in San Francisco, I’d definitely be at this event. My favorite course from the upcoming beer dinner is called “A Study in Duck” - not entirely sure what that means, actually.

There’s a great (and affordable) Flying Dog beer dinner in the Atlanta area next week at Urban Flats (technically in Lawrenceville). The beers being poured are:
In-Heat Wheat Hefeweizen
Snake Dog IPA
Horn Dog Barley Wine
Old Scratch Amber Lager
Gonzo Imperial Porter
We’ve been informed the menu will be a special surprise. Here’s more info about the venue:
Urban Flats is a casual dining destination featuring an eclectic fusion of ancient world style flatbread in a modern urban setting, using the freshest ingredients inspired by the region and season along with tastefully selected wines from around the world.
Our focus is on the Flatbread, which dates back centuries ago being the first creation of bread. Grains were put into a pot over the fire and cooked into porridge. Ultimately this grain mixture was spread onto a rock next to the fire and thus the first flat cakes were made.

BJ’s Brewery in Corona, California is having a “Beer Appreciation Dinner” next Tuesday, February 26th at 7:00. It is $30.00 per guest and they pair the food that BJ’s offers. The theme is Winter Warmers, and features beers from Allagash, Sierra Nevada, Bj’s Brewery, North Coast Brewing and more. There are a few BJ’s Breweries in the Denver area, and I spent some time with some of their crew at the Vail Big Beers and Barleywines festival (don’t worry, there’s still a post coming about that, I promise). They seem like great people, so get out and support craft beer and food pairings!

Bar Crudo, a raw bar in San Francisco (we’ve written about them before), is having an “Extreme Beer Dinner” on February 24th. From their website:
Sunday, February 24, 2008
6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Celebrating strong ale month in San Francisco, Bar Crudo will be continuing their monthly beer dinner with the Extreme Beer Dinner. Chef Mike Selvera will create an all Cajun menu(think gumbo, oysters, and crawfish) in crudo style. Beer Director Tim Selvera will select some amazing beer.
Pioneering breweries such as Russian River, Allagash, Jolly Pumpkin and, yes, Samuel Adams are creating complex beers that go beyond traditional beer styles. This dinner will exemplify how serious beer matches with serious food. It will also be delicious!
5 Cajun courses paired with 5 extreme beers
$70
Tickets for this event can be purchased by e-mailing us at tim@barcrudo.com, or calling us directly at 415-517-3768
There are only 31 seats available so contact us soon.
Although the menu isn’t posted, we’re definitely liking what Bar Crudo is doing. And given the large number of high-quality high-gravity beers that are present on the left coast (think Lost Abbey, for instance), this is a wonderful way to sample a variety of “extreme” brews.
If anyone in the San Francisco area attends and takes photos or wants to write a review, feel free to pass it on here and we’ll pimp your work.

Dogfish Head is having a New Year’s Eve Beer Dinner. There will be 2 seatings, with the later meal having music afterwards. I’ve been a fan of their beer, and can’t seem to get enough of the 60 Minute IPA recently. The menu looks pretty enticing, and it appears they’re taking advantage of being near the ocean. Tuna Nicoise and Crab Soufflé are two of the courses.
For tickets, call 302-226-BREW.
